Sometimes it can feel like you must pay for visiting anywhere in Cameron Highlands. But not the Tanah Rata Coronation Park.
This public park has gone through many changes over the years, but it has always been free to visit. It is our go-to spot if we’re in between sightseeing.
You can have a look at our photos below to decide if you want to make a visit here! In its current state, it is a nice place to bring the whole family along.
What To Do Here
Relax
We are happy enough to just take a leisurely stroll around and find a spot to relax when we’re here. If you go in the afternoon, there are few shady spots. But stay in the shade and it’s cool. Especially when the occasional breeze blows.
There are several places to sit, and some are under mature trees. Besides these, there are concrete tunnels that are beside the stream that runs parallel to the park.
Explore
The stream is very clear although we didn’t see any fish. There are a few bridges in this park. The small red bridge is one of the ways to enter the park. But across the other side of the road is a higher section of the park.
It may look odd but there are some giant colorful fruits that children can climb all over. Or that adults can take photos with.
We explored this area and found that if you climb up high, you can access the public library. There’s a tennis court up there too but it’s locked.
Interestingly, there’s a big clock on the ground too but it looks like it has not been in operation for a while. Close by, there are places to sit and have a picnic.
Exercise
There is another larger bridge in the park. Crossing it takes you to a big field that is shared with a school. Many joggers use the track.
We tried to rent one of the tandem bicycles stationed by the side of the track but were not successful in connecting to the app. Which is a pity, since there are many different types of bikes to try. And it is very scenic here with the pine trees and stream next to the track.
Facilities
Close to the playground is the clock tower (with the current temperature displayed) but also, a little book hut.
If you follow past the swings and other playground equipment, you’ll see a small shop. And this is where the toilets are.
There are no food stalls in the park. The closest place for food is across the road at a local food court.
Conclusion
We always have a pleasant time at the Tanah Rata Coronation Park whenever we visit. Whether it’s sunny, raining, evening, or the middle of the afternoon.
Hardly any tourists come here, but the park is quite popular with the locals.
Does this park sound like it’s worth visiting to you? Let us know in the comments!
Agro Technology Park MARDI Cameron Highlands
Agro Technology Park MARDI Cameron Highlands is not far from Tanah Rata Coronation Park. Entrance fees are one of the lowest too. But we don’t think the attractions are in great condition or are impressive enough to make this a must-visit location.
Green View Garden
Regarding places without entrance fees, Green View Garden is another place you can visit besides the Tanah Rata Coronation Park. There are more things to do here but it’s not as big. Eating here is expensive, but the food is not bad.
Cactus Point
This may be just a nursery, but Cactus Point is free to visit. Their arrangement of plants is aesthetic. And they have some unusually large cacti here as well. We recommend a visit especially if you’re keen on picking up some affordable garden supplies.
