About Siu Siu Restaurant
5 minutes from Mid Valley Shopping Mall:
Siu Siu Restaurant on the left of Thean Hou Kong, a renown Chinese temple.
But aside from the large Heineken sign on the front, the facade blends in with its surroundings. So, you can miss it.
This hidden gem is famous for its char siu (Chinese barbecue pork) and many seafood dishes.
Note: Siu Siu Restaurant at Robson Heights is the second outlet. The first branch is at Sungai Besi.
Ease Of Parking
There is an outdoor parking lot across from the restaurant. This private car park belongs to Siu Siu Restaurant.
The gravel car park can accommodate 40 vehicles at a go. An “uncle” patrols the car park during business hours.
Finding an available parking bay is usually not an issue. And it is free of charge!
Ambiance
Siu Siu Restaurant has trees around that form a cooling canopy. The interior has greenery too with potted plants and fish tanks.
There are 2 large bird cages with a parrot and a mynah.
Despite being open-air with no air-conditioning:
The large interior space has good ventilation. Shade from the trees and ceiling fans provide a cool and calm ambience.
But a crowded atmosphere means that you must speak louder here.
Service At Siu Siu Restaurant
Service at Siu Siu Restaurant is relatively fast despite the large crowd. Food comes within 20 minutes of ordering.
But you should note that the waiters will propose their bestsellers. And sometimes they overdo it by recommending portions that are too big for the group.
So, it’s best to note how much your group can actually eat. And order based on this to avoid food wastage.
Notable Dishes At Siu Siu Restaurant
One of the must-haves here is the char siu. The caramelized BBQ pork belly has the right amount of char with a lingering sweetness.
The fat breaks down into a juicy bite. While the tenderness of the meat is unmatched. As is its texture.
Besides char siu, the clay pot curry with seafood and vegetables is good:
Tasty gravy goes well with crispy mantou. This delicious dish is brimming with brinjal, lady fingers and fried taufu puffs. Along with fish heads, and prawns.
The mantou is worth a mention because it is not drenched in oil, crispy on the outside yet fluffy and warm on the inside.
Other Dishes At Siu Siu Restaurant
Fried pork in sweet and sour sauce has a balanced taste. It has the sweetness of the pineapple and tanginess from the tomatoes.
The homemade braised bean curd is heavenly too with fresh fragrance of soybean:
Its soft and silky texture yields when poked with cutlery. And the braised sauce with angled loofah rounds things out.
Oven-grilled squid is another novel dish not served anywhere else. It has a lovely herbaceous sauce on the side.
You’ll want to skip the steamed chicken sautéed in wine sauce, though. As the chicken felt rubbery with every bite. It makes us wonder if this was yesterday’s chicken pre-boiled as a base for soups stocks and recycled today.
Pricing
We ordered 10 dishes for a table of 12 adults. And the bill (including Chinese tea) was about RM650, which is about RM54 per person.
This is a bit more expensive compared to an average café meal with a sophisticated ambience.
Portions are large. So, to keep your bill low, you should only order as much as you can finish!
There is no menu handed out to the customers.
The prices for the seafood and main dishes are on the billboard. All the same, be sure to ask about the price before confirming your order.
Conclusion
The atmosphere and good Chinese food are reasons to patronize Siu Siu Restaurant. Some lament that they can be a rip-off, especially if you take all their recommendations as good.
But if you stick to the proven bestsellers, a meal at Siu Siu Restaurant is rewarding.
It is convenient that Siu Siu Restaurant is close to both Thean Hou Temple and Mid Valley Megamall too!
