About Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant
Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant has run operations for more than 5 years at the time of writing. So, it is one of the newer seafood restaurants in Kuala Sepetang.
The location is right at the estuary. And diners will have expansive view of the murky waters, comings and goings of local boats, and the beautiful mangroves just across.
Because of the lovely sunset you can witness here, Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant is more popular at dinner times.
Of their menu, there is a mix of dishes from different cuisines – These are predominantly Chinese, but when it comes to how they prepare seafood dishes, Thai and Teow Chew cooking styles are available too.
Ease Of Parking At Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant
This is a very small town so parking is scarce. More so on weekends, school holidays, and public holidays, and during peak hours (e.g., dinner).
On a weekday lunch time however, we were able to secure a spot right in front of the restaurant.
Ambiance At Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant
The front of the restaurant is where they store some of the seafood in freezers. They have two toilets here and these are very clean albeit a bit cramped.
There’s no décor in this area besides the wooden structure at the entrance of the restaurant.
Straight ahead is a large deck where they sort out and wash fresh seafood. To the left of is a separate large deck where there are many large round tables and chairs.
Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant offers diners an almost 360° view of the surroundings. While the restaurant is completely open air, it feels breezy here with the numerous fans.
There are sinks to wash your hands and tissue boxes fixed to the poles that hold up the roof.
It’s a rustic and clean setting to sit down to a meal with friends and family. This is much appreciated after doing some sightseeing in less comfortable places – like the Charcoal Factory in Kuala Sepetang.
At lunch time, we were the only table besides one other occupied table. Another group came later.
Service At Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant
Staff are very prompt in taking our orders and serving drinks. They made us feel welcome even though they were all very busy preparing ingredients.
Food does take a long time to come. We waited 40 minutes (or more) for the first dish to make an appearance. The others came a while later, one by one as we began our meal.
The serving times are very slow, considering that we went on a weekday too.
Food At Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant
For our order, we had steamed fish, steamed squid, fried mantis prawns, lala in soup, and one vegetable dish (stir-fried sweet potato leaves).
All of the seafood is fresh. The squid had a really nice texture.
Taste-wise, all the dishes were adequately seasoned and not too salty. Our personal favorites were the squid, prawns and fish.
The lala is fine but the soup is a little oily on top although it is tasty.
As for drinks, we ordered coconut water, and sour plum juice. Both are very refreshing.
Pricing At Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant
Portions are fair for the pricing and ambiance of the restaurant. Note that we did not order the pricier options like mantis prawns or crabs.
The total came up to RM180 for our group size of 5 adults. Although you can easily spend a few hundred Ringgit here.
If you’re coming up from Kuala Lumpur, you will probably find the pricing at Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant very reasonable.
Conclusion
We might repeat a visit to Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant if we happen to go to Kuala Sepetang again. The comfortable ambiance and nice scenery make the long wait for the food bearable.
If you don’t mind a potentially long wait for your meal, you can give Rasa Sayang Seafood Restaurant a go. After all, dining at a seafood restaurant is one of the highlights of any trip to Kuala Sepetang.
