Yat Sun Restaurant has two lots in the same area of Taiping town. In fact, they are walking distance from each other.
We went to the newer lot, and this is our experience there. There was one dish we wished we skipped out on.

About Yat Sun Restaurant, Taiping
Yat Sun Restaurant started out as a traditional coffee shop. Their signature dish is their Hainanese chicken chop.
It might interest you to know that Yat Sun Restaurant is halal too.
The two branches of Yat Sun Restaurant are within walking distance from each other. One is newer with air conditioning. While the other retains its classic kopitiam appearance with open-air dining.
We haven’t tried dining at the older branch but maybe next time.
Ease Of Parking At Yat Sun Restaurant
If they are not full, you can try the paid parking lots between the two rows of shophouses where the two branches of Yat Sun Restaurant are.
Prepare to park further away if you are visiting on weekends, public holidays or popular mealtimes (e.g., 12pm to 1pm).
Yat Sun Restaurant is open for dinner too. They typically close at 8:30pm.

Ambiance At Yat Sun Restaurant
Yat Sun Restaurant is not known for its ambiance. Both branches are suitable for casual dining with family and friends.
The dining environment of the new branch (we reserve comments about the older branch until we try it for ourselves) is clean.
And while there are not that many seats inside, the restaurant is fully air-conditioned.
Service At Yat Sun Restaurant
On a Thursday afternoon (~3pm), we found that both branches of Yat Sun Restaurants had customers.
And we can say that the service at the new branch of Yat Sun Restaurant is not outstanding. It is average.
The staff do their jobs in a brisk manner. They leave you alone to make decisions on what to order. You can expect your food shortly after placing an order (provided that the restaurant is not full).
Food At Yat Sun Restaurant
We did like the signature Hainanese chicken chop at Yat Sun Restaurant. It is better than the chicken chop with fried rice that we also ordered.
The chicken chop is fried well, and the sauce (while on the runny side) is tasty – it is not too salty.
Additionally, they’re not stingy about the sauce. The meat is tender and has a substantial coating of flour.
But the fried rice was only mediocre and had too much char for our liking. We don’t recommend ordering this dish.
For drinks, the iced sour plum juice is rich and really refreshing on a hot day!
Pricing At Yat Sun Restaurant
Altogether, our 2 mains and 1 drink cost more than RM30. Hainanese chicken chop alone costs RM18.
The fried rice on the other hand, cost less than RM10 (but it’s not worth ordering in our opinion).
So, dining at Yat Sun Restaurant is more expensive than at the average kopitiam.
For drinks, they have a decent selection to choose from, but the price range is RM3 and up for a drink.
Conclusion
Does Yat Sun Restaurant have the best Hainanese chicken chop in Taiping?
The Hainanese chicken chop at Yat Sun Restaurant is a bit better than decent. Although we do appreciate their fast service and clean air-conditioned dining environment.
Moreover, Yat Sun Restaurant is halal. So, you can still put Yat Sun Restaurant on your bucket list of food to try in Taiping.
