Does Taiping have any trendy cafes? You might not think of this small town as a foodie haven. But don’t skip it as it is does have something to offer.
Taiping’s laidback charms complement its growing café scene.
Just check out this handpicked list to perk up your day! These cafes that we’ve been to offer artisanal cakes, gourmet brews, delicate desserts or pastries, and more.
1. Yinn’s Patisserie
With a distinct Peranakan interior mixed with some contemporary elements, Yinn’s Patisserie is a seamless blend of old-world charm and new-age elegance.
Delectable 4-inch cakes with seasonal designs are crowd favorites here. As for beverages, the rose-flavored latte is a top hit for its robust aroma.
If you’re scouting for dainty gift sets, their giant cream puffs make an excellent choice. They have classic flavors like chocolate and strawberry. And more unique tastes such as Rose Lychee, Oreo, and Lotus Biscoff.
Another pastry choice here is the mushroom sourdough toast. This has a distinct umami taste that makes it irresistible.
Mains like the fish and chips and chicken chop are not too bad if you want something more sustaining. We had these for lunch.
Prices are mid-range, and the ambiance is flawless. Although some areas of the space (especially towards the back) are a little stuffy.
We think on non-peak days, this place would make a great hangout for relaxed conversations.

2. DoubleTap Café
With delicious food, aromatic gourmet coffee, and gorgeous latte art:
DoubleTap Café is a close contender to Yinn’s Patisserie.
Pretty plating features in everything on the menu. From pasta, sandwiches, rice dishes, breakfast sets, and more.
Among their wide selection of mains, the black pepper chicken chop is particularly good.
Double Tap Café’s new location faces Taiping Lake Gardens. And they have plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The café is just as spacious as their guest parking outside too.
Coffee is good if you like yours with some acidic notes. As such, the coffee is not our preference personally. But they have matcha late, earl grey latte, and cakes of the day too.
Still, we find that Double Tap Café is a very nice place to chill on a rainy afternoon.

3. 90 Specialty Cafe
Along Jalan Barrack of Taiping, 90 Specialty certainly does not lack for ambiance. The interior of 90 Specialty is incredibly slick.
The industrial styling is complemented with mood ambiance lighting. A carefully planned seating layout allows customers some privacy. There are 2 large tables at the back of the café that will comfortably fit larger groups.
Coffee, cakes, and drinks are admittedly overpriced. And they don’t have much other than cakes and sandwiches if you want something savory.
Note: There maybe a 90-minute time restriction per table on busy days

- Business Hours: 9am to 5:30pm; Closed on Tuesdays
4. Monday Brew Café (Permanently Closed
Get decent Korean staples like Japchae, Kimchi Spaghetti, Korean Chicken, and rabokki here. Alongside sandwiches, pasta, and cakes.
After your meal, try authentic Gangnam delicacies. They have a refreshing boba milk tea too. We liked their freshly squeezed orange juice (no added water or sugar) and the coffee is not bad.
Interesting art décor sets the mood for a creative yet relaxing interior. There are several private sections available for an intimate lunch in groups. Plus, board games.
Pricing is fair and portions are generous.
The only downside is that this café is very dimly lit inside. And that the bathroom is outdated (e.g., squatting type with an outside sink that doesn’t have a pipe for the water to drain neatly).

Next to Taiping’s Lake Garden:
Rainy Corner café serves fusion food within its cozy interior.
This new kid on the block serves a good mix of different cuisines. They have western cuisine, Japanese food, Chinese dishes, and various types of beverages.
Novelty dishes include the Kimchi Chicken Chop Burger. There is the Cheesy Chicken Chop, and fried American Ginseng Noodles too.
This is one of the few cafes here that caters to vegetarian and lacto-ovo diets too.
