DoubleTap Café is not a new café in Taiping. But their new location in front of Taiping Lake Gardens is reason enough to consider a visit.
The fact that they have their own car park for visitors is an appreciated bonus!

About DoubleTap Café
DoubleTap first opened in December 2015. And their original location was opposite the OCBC bank in Taiping.
They’re closed on Tuesdays but on most days, their opening hours are typically between 11:30am or 12pm to 10:30pm to 11pm.
The menu features a lot of western mains with some fusion items in the mix. There is French toast too. If you want cakes, order them straight from the counter since they’re not on the menu.
We find their beverage menu to have a satisfying selection that includes both caffeinated and non-caffeinated options.
But if you are a serious coffee aficionado, you might find their menu options limited. In which case, you might want to check out other cafes in Taiping.
Ease Of Parking At DoubleTap Café
Once you enter the grounds of DoubleTap Café, you can park at the side of the café. Or at the back.
The gravel open-air car park is free for visitors to use.
There’s no sheltered walkway from the carpark to the café but if you want to leave during a storm, the café does have umbrellas ready for guest use.
Ambiance At DoubleTap Café
When it comes to ambiance, DoubleTap Café has an advantage over its rivals.
Other cafes in Taiping are in town and confined to shop lots. But DoubleTap Café is in a bungalow sized lot.
Inside they have an attractive layout with ample space between tables. The seats most in demand are the ones by the windows with view of Taiping Lake Gardens.
Seating varies from regular tables and chairs to sofa set ups. Because of all the space, DoubleTap Café is a conducive environment for a chat with friends.
The whole café has air conditioning, supplemented with numerous fans. Outdoor seating is available too and is well-protected from the rain.
And close by the counter, is a cozy corner consisting of a curved cement bench and table. There are a mix of fake and real plants scattered around the café.
Service At DoubleTap Café
Most of the staff hang around the counter. Service is not slow (there were only 4 occupied tables on the day of our visit). But do note that you have to make your orders and payment at the counter.
There is a self-service water station next to the counter at DoubleTap Café.
We have no complaints on service. The staff is polite and even greet you when you enter and when you leave the café.
Food At DoubleTap Café
We got cappuccino and earl grey latte. Along with a slice of tiramisu crepe cake.
The earl grey latte has a lovely aroma, but the earl grey flavor itself is very light. This is not a complaint on our part. We still find it an enjoyable beverage.
Likewise, the coffee was fine. Just sourer than our preference. They do have cold brew coffee too at DoubleTap Café.
Their tiramisu crepe cake is not mind-blowing. But we appreciate that it’s not sweet and is full of flavor.
We don’t have comments on their food since we already had lunch at Yat Sun Restaurant before our visit to DoubleTap Café.
Pricing At DoubleTap Café
Matcha latte might cost close to RM15 here, but the earl grey latte is fair game and a cheaper alternative.
We happened to get our hot coffee in a smaller cup than the latte. We don’t know if the staff do this on purpose. Maybe they just want to make their serving presentation more appealing with different cups.
A slice of cake cost RM12 which we think is standard. Our 2 beverages and a slice of cake came up to RM30+.
Conclusion
Even though we only had coffee and cake at DoubleTap Café, we enjoyed our visit on a rainy day in Taiping.
Prices are still fair considering their spaciousness and ambiance – it really depends on what you order too.
Besides DoubleTap Café, Perak Museum is another rainproof Taiping attraction you might want to keep in mind in case the weather turns.
