Food
Yes, the food here is worth queuing for.
We saw a lot of orders for lamb shank and decided to get one too. The meat is very tender and there’s none of the strong smell that usually accompanies mutton.
Instead of settling for one of their many sauces, we chose to combine all to top our white rice. And it led to a tasty end result.
But we have equally high praises for the biryani with fried chicken.
The rice is very fragrant, flavorful, and a little sweet from all the raisins they use. If you’re picky about rice texture, it’s a little soft but we still like it.
Next, the fried chicken was still crispy on the outside. And this is without any bread crumbs too! Moreover, it is seasoned well and doesn’t compete with the taste of the biryani rice.
For drinks, we shared a glass of iced lemon tea. Which is thick, not too sweet and very refreshing in the afternoon heat!
If we get another chance to dine here, we’ll go for their other best sellers, the sotong (squid).
They have murtabak too at the front of the restaurant.
Service
There are a lot of staffatHameediyah Restaurant. Most of whom are men since they must carry several large plates at a time.
We find that most of the staff is very cheery and this made for a pleasant dining experience.
There is someone who manages the queue as well, so things proceed in an orderly fashion.
Ambiance
The seating closest to where the staff prepares the dishes is usually crowded. But there is another lot under Hameediyah Restaurant that is a few doors down.
It has a more spacious and attractive dining environment.
If you have more than one person in your group, have one place the orders while the other waits in the air-conditioned space. Cause these too will fill up quickly after 12pm.
Pricing
Prices are reasonable considering their massive portions. It cost us RM50 just for the lamb shank while the biryani with fried chicken and some vegetables was RM16.
White rice is naturally cheaper than biryani, but we do find the latter a lot more appetizing.
Drinks are of average pricing in Penang.
Together, our meal added up to almost RM80. Which is way too expensive for daily lunch in Malaysia but we did not regret any of it.
Maybe next time, we will share a biryani set and just add on the lamb shank (without another portion of rice to go with it). And try their sotong too.
Parking
Forget parking if you can – Getting here by an e-hailing service or taxi is much less stressful.
We think that taking the local bus might be another option as we saw many buses pass through here.
But if you are planning to drive here, go before peak hours. This will give you a better chance of finding a parking spot closer to the eatery.
Bring a lot of patience with you as this area is always full of cars and pedestrians!
