Escape Penang is the perfect playground for activities that will push you to your limits! This outdoor theme park has activities for all ages, energy levels, and fitness levels!
You can speed downhill in an oversized tube or challenge your fear of heights among the treetops! Read below to see what it was like during our visit!
What Makes This Place Unique
This outdoor park offers both wet and dry rides in a natural setting of 44 acres. There are more than 30 exciting activities such as water slides, zip lines, high ropes courses, etc.
And unlike Sunway Pyramid Theme Park, Escape Theme Park has novel rides for many riders at one go!
The emphasis here is on the self-directed play. That means you’re in charge of navigating through challenging tasks. Furthermore, once you start, there’s no turning back!
Energetic and friendly staff keep things fun. We couldn’t help but join the crowd for a chicken dance activity too!
Entrance Fees
Escape Penang offers cheaper ticket prices for guests who purchase their tickets in advance. You can book as early as 2 months before your visit!
Walk-in rates are higher than online rates. It is around RM180 per adult if you get your tickets online.
Facilities
The available facilities at the theme park include shower rooms and toilets, a first aid room, outdoor pavilions and resting kiosks. As well as a surau. There are lockers too and you’ll need to pay RM10 to get access to one locker. Payment is via digital wallets (e.g. Touch n Go), credit cards, or debit cards.
Rental rates apply for other essentials like shoes, towels, rash guards and even Muslim swimwear.
There is ample parking in the outdoor area of the theme park.
You can drop your group off first at the main entrance, and then drive down the same road to the open-air car park.
Escape Penang’s sole restaurateur is A&W.
What To Wear
In the dry section of the park (where the adventure and gravity-defying games take place), it is a must to wear closed-toe shoes to protect your feet.
Wear comfortable clothes suitable for a workout or hike. Because strapping on a harness with tight clothes can cause unnecessary chaffing!
In the wet park, get suited in proper swimwear. For ladies, a one-piece swimsuit, bikini, or Muslimah swimwear is fine. Men should equip themselves with board shorts, swim trunks, or surf wear. Babies must have their swim diapers on.
PS: If you did not bring your own swimwear, there is an on-site store that sells and rent swimwear for a fee
You’ll be spending most of your time under the scorching sun. So, bring along these essentials to guarantee a great time outdoors.
- Sun block
- Hat and sunglasses (optional)
- Swimwear
- Clean clothes and bathing towel
- Jogging shoes or wet shoes (for the dry park)
- Workout clothing or any comfortable clothing that facilitates movement
Rides And Activities That We Tried
There are more than 30 rides to discover and while we could not try them all, here are our top picks!
1. Tubby Race
Starting from higher ground, Tubby Race begins with a scenic open-air cable seat ride. The ride traverses over towering trees. It’s a relief to learn that no trees were cut down to build the ride.
You can experience the Tubby Race alone or in a group of up to 6 riders. For many riders, the staff will link several Tubby tires together for awesome family fun!
The first tire will have water, and the ride operator even lubricates the base to cut friction and maximize speed! We expected the ride to be very bumpy, but it was smoother than expected!
Young children can participate in the Tubby Race if the youngest child sits in front with an adult right behind.
2. Monkey Business At The The Rope Course
Monkey Business is a rope course with 3 levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). The park attendant recommends newbies take the beginner course. Because you will have to use all your muscles!
Your adventure begins after the guide secures the harness and pulley system. The latter is your lifeline during the 40-minute course.
Through the course, you will walk on tight ropes and wooden planks. You will also have to crawl through a wooden tube and zipline across treetops.
If a panic attack strikes you mid-way, there is unfortunately no ladder to climb back down. Hence, this is a course you must finish once you’ve started!
We went for level 3. And it really requires the strength of your arms besides having a good grip!
3. World’s Longest Zip Coaster
Measuring 1,135 meters swallow your fears and buckle up to enjoy a panoramic view of the park’s lush greenery with this ride!
The 6-minute zipline ride has exhilarating drops, steep climbs, and unsuspecting turns.
As another self-directed adventure game, don’t forget to jerk the handle of the zipline. This helps in case you stop mid-way.
4. World’s Longest Tube Waterslide
The longest tube waterslide at the theme park sees two riders sharing an inflatable raft. It is where you whiz down 1,111 meters of sheer fun!
There is a covered and an open water slide. The covered version accelerates faster, but we feel that it is not too scary for even newbies to try.
5. First and only Ski Slope in Malaysia
Escape Penang offers a dry ski slope where you can try skiing and snowboarding in a safe environment.
The 302-meter-long ski slope consists of two sections. The section for beginners has straight stretches and one simple curve.
While the section for experienced skiers has a steeper incline with daring descents.
6. Dead Sea Pool
For a calmer activity, take a dip in the Dead Sea Pool. This pool has mineral-rich water. It is easy to float on the water even if you can’t swim.
This attraction takes inspiration from the famous salt lake in Jordan. The relaxing experience has natural health benefits and is only 4 meters deep.
7. The Gecko Tower
The Gecko Tower is a multi-façade rock climbing wall. There are 3 routes designed for beginners, intermediate and professional climbers.
Escape Penang uses an auto belay system. So even if you slip, you will slowly float down to safety.
This vertical tower protrudes approximately 50 meters above land. And hence, it is a test of agility and technique. But it is high on the fun factor too!
Challenge your friend to a duel by scaling up the walls together. The first to press the buzzer on top wins.
8. Coco Climb
This is basically you versus a coconut tree. The only “gear” you get is a cloth. I tried this and failed but one of my friends was able to get up the whole tree.
Conclusion
To the penultimate question – is Escape Park worth going? Yes, we think it’s well worth the high entrance fees. The splashes and thrills outweigh the cost.
At the end of the day, bask in satisfaction for overcoming various personal fears. Including the fear of heights, high speeds, or just the uncertainty of the unknown.
Things To Do With Kids
Besides ESCAPE Penang, there are other attractions that make for a great experience for kids as well as for adults. See our suggestions for more ideas on where to take your family!
Entopia Penang
It’s a bug’s world in Entopia Penang. We highly recommend this place if you’re trying to stay out of the heat. And want something that’s both fun and educational for the kids!
Batu Ferringhi
Escape Penang is a close drive to Batu Ferringhi which has some beaches – though these are better for water sports than swimming or surfing. There are some nice luxury resorts in this area too.
