Labu + Labu Bakery at Sunway Mentari is worth checking out. Especially if you’re in the mood for a dessert or snack that isn’t too rich.
Labu + Labu Bakery has a heavenly chicken floss bun. The baked goods are so good that Labu Labu Bakery doesn’t take orders when you walk in.
In fact, you’ll need to pre-order your chicken floss bread at least a day in advance! But once you sink your teeth into these pillowy delights, there’s no turning back!

About Labu + Labu Bakery
Labu + Labu Bakery opened in February 2019, serving the Sunway Mentari neighborhood.
One of their main selling points is that they don’t bake the buns and cakes until the day you collect them.
To better plan resources, walk-in orders are not accepted. Unless there are customers who can’t pick up their order that day. This rarely happens, but it’s like hitting the jackpot!
Over time, word got out about the unique confectionaries here. And as of June 17, 2023, Labu + Labu Bakery has started delivering to Singapore!
Ease Of Parking At Labu + Labu Bakery
Beside a dollar store in the commercial square at Sunway Mentari:
Labu + Labu is also full on weekdays due to the office crowd. It’s nice that there is parking space in front of the bakery.
But there are no attractions or shopping centers nearby. Only small stores that cater to local needs. Thus, many customers have their orders delivered to their doorstep.
Ambiance At Labu + Labu Bakery
The aesthetics are simple overall, and the store’s facade is quite small. But the orange exterior aligns with their branding since labu means pumpkin in Malay.
Labu + Labu bakery has a no-frills interior for baking and order fulfillment. Customers are not allowed to enter.
And they pass delivery orders through an opening next to the entrance. This crowd containment strategy has worked well.
Service At Labu + Labu Bakery
We placed our order online on Saturday. And the earliest available slot was Monday. So, we decided to collect the chicken floss buns the following Saturday.
Once you complete the online payment, you’ll receive an order confirmation in the app and via email. Which says to expect a reminder of the pickup date, but that was not the case.
The order confirmation further states that:
Customers can collect their orders or arrange for delivery any time between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the pick-up date.
Our experience with Labu + Labu Bakery was uneventful in a good way. We were at the store at the appointed time to pick up our order and came out in a minute.
Before Labu Labu Bakery had the app, there were instances of mixed orders. Thanks to the new app, ordering your favorite buns is now a breeze.
Note: They have auto-response messages on their WhatsApp
Signature Pastries At Labu + Labu Bakery
The chicken floss balls or chicken floss muffin are special:
Their texture is not bread-like, but more like a super soft cake that melts in your mouth.
When you bite into the pillowy, light cake, the special Labu Labu sauce oozes out to a creamy delight.
The sauce is neither rich nor jelak. Neither is it filled with mayonnaise. It is a decadent indulgence where one piece is not enough.
Vegetarians are not left out either, as Vegetarian Floss Buns are also available. The taste is just as scrumptious, if not better!
Note: Flossie Balls are now also available in a set of 8, as well as a trial pack of 4.
Other Baked Goods At Labu + Labu Bakery
The Pandan Swiss Roll is another sterling recommendation. It has aromatic screw pine flavors.
What makes this version special is the Gula Melaka-enriched cake. Which adds a distinct smoky nuance. The creamy interior complements the moist and light cake.
We like the dark chocolate sponge cake with a rich chocolate filling.
Here, they make everything on the day of delivery.
And since there are no additives or preservatives, it is best to consume the baked goods within 3 days. Otherwise, refrigerate them after one day.
Pricing At Labu + Labu Bakery
The chicken floss balls cost RM18. While the vegetarian version costs RM1 more at RM19.
Swiss rolls cost RM18 each.
Conclusion
For a dessert or teatime snack that isn’t too sweet or rich, Labu + Labu Bakery is a good choice. As long as you don’t mind having to pre-order them.
The menu does not have a lot of variety. But their baked goods are top notch and hard to come by. The Flossie Balls are well worth getting.
Plus, if you live a distance from Labu + Lab Bakery or dread the traffic, delivery is available.
