Wonder Farm Mushroom in Taiping may be an interesting visit to some people. Others may not find it as interesting. After all, not everyone is a fan of mushrooms.
So, it’s worth reading about this place before you make your visit. However, one great thing about this place is that the site tours are very affordable and informative.
And they have some unique products for sale that you can bring home too.
Getting Here
Driving your own car is the most convenient way to get to Wonder Farm Mushroom in Taiping.
Because the farm/ factory is in a palm oil plantation out of town (20 minutes’ drive from Taiping).
That said, the road condition is still in good shape. We didn’t meet any large potholes or other obstacles during our drive into the plantation.
And it’s best to rely on a GPS app to get you here too as there are very few signboards for Wonder Farm Mushroom.
If you’re coming here from Ipoh, it takes a little more than an hour to reach Wonder Farm Mushroom.
Plan your Taiping day trip to either start or end with Wonder Farm Mushroom since the farm is not actually in Taiping.
Entrance Fees
There are no entrance fees for Wonder Farm Mushroom.
Tours start from as little as RM3 per person too. You can purchase the tickets from the main visitor center.
This building is a few steps away from the side entrance and outside parking of Wonder Farm Mushroom.
Facilities
Considering that tours are not the main source of income at Wonder Farm Mushroom:
They have the necessary facilities in place for visitors. And they are well-maintained too. Albeit dimly lit.
- Waiting lounge
- Gift shop
- Toilets
- Umbrellas
We did not see a prayer room during our visit, but they probably have one since they have Malay staff.
There is no on-site café or restaurant at Wonder Farm Mushroom.
Tours
Tours are the main reason to visit Wonder Farm Mushroom.
These short tours around the farm take 20 to 30 minutes depending on how many questions you have for the staff. As well as the pace of your group.
Some of the staff speak English.
Each member of your party will receive a small packet of black fungus drink too.
During the tour, you won’t get to see the inside of the factory. But the tour takes you outside to where they prepare the soil mix for the mushrooms.
Later, the staff will bring you to the outdoor showroom where they have several different mushrooms growing out of bottles.
Staff will point out the different types of mushrooms, their harvesting periods and their uses.
The tour ends back at the gift shop where you purchase the tickets for the tours.
What To Buy (Souvenirs)
In addition to the ticket counter, there are shelves with produce like:
- Mushroom drinks
- Dried mushrooms
- Noodles made from mushrooms
- Various face care products featuring mushrooms
Display cases house dried specimens of the most valuable mushrooms they grow at Wonder Farm Mushroom – namely, Tiger Milk mushrooms and Gano (Lingzhi) fungi. These are not for sale.
The main visitor building has toilets, plus space and seats set up for a briefing presentation (there were none during the tour).
There’s no air-conditioning in this building but it feels slightly cooler than outdoors on the factory grounds.
