Shopping Malls In Ipoh - Travelswithsun

Visiting a shopping mall is how locals usually escape the heat (or rain). It’s a very popular pastime for families on the weekends since the malls are fully air-conditioned.

If you have some time to spare in Ipoh, why not do some shopping (or window shopping) at one of these modern shopping malls?

Especially if you do need to get something as most of these malls have an anchor supermarket and department store.

And right at the top, is Harvey Norman – the only branch of this furniture chain store in Ipoh. There is a new electronics store that just opened on the top floor too.

2. AEON Mall Kinta City

This is Ipoh’s most popular mall as it enjoys a central location and is the very first Aeon in Ipoh. And for a long time, it was the only one.

If a local mentions Jusco, they are likely referring to this mall. Its former name is Jusco, after all.

Parking is full during weekends. And you can now pay the parking fees directly with your AEON member card.

Many eateries and shops have come and gone throughout the years. MPH Bookstore has long closed but POPULAR bookstore is still open.

There’s both DAISO and MR.DIY if you’re in need of any miscellaneous kitchenware or tools.

One of the newest additions to this mall is a stylish new branch of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Vincci accessories store has had a recent facelift too. So has Padini and the Chinese eatery (Restaurant Ding Hao) upstairs.

The Maybank branch before POPULAR bookstore has closed. And in its place is a new money exchange service.

Note: There are ATM machines available at this mall, right beside the lifts and toilets by the department store.

Besides, MH hotel, there is a brand-new boutique hotel across from Jusco – 1969 Suites @ Ipoh Garden.

Here are some other options you might be interested in:

Art Cottage Hotel offers elegantly furnished rooms with air conditioning. The hotel is a few steps away from Festival Walk – a shopping arcade of sorts with eateries. ii. Mornington Hotel Medan Ipoh

This 2-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi, each with a private bathroom. It is a short 8-minute walk from AEON Mall Kinta City and there are a lot of choices for non-halal eateries here. But what’s not so great is the lack of parking in the day. Prices start from ~RM100 per night for 2 pax.

3. AEON Mall Klebang

You don’t have to wait long to get a good parking spot at this mall. It’s one of the biggest malls with a massive outdoor and sheltered car park.

Most of its patrons live in Klebang area or work in the industrial area nearby.

In this mall are many popular fast fashion retails stores like H&M and Cotton. The UNIQLO branch here is now closed though. And in its infancy, this used to be the only mall with a Sephora branch but that has since closed.

4. AEON Midtown Falim Shopping Centre

AEON Midtown Falim Shopping Centre is still relatively empty, but they have Aeon BIG supermarket.

In fact, this is the only Aeon BIG supermarket in Ipoh at the moment. Other shops of interest would be the two branches (yes, two not one) of MR DIY on the upper floors of this mall.

There’s no bowling alley here but you can try roller skating and go-karts (PLSC Roller Skate) on the second floor. The cinema here was previously MBO, but this MBO cinema branch has since been acquired by GSC.

The main pharmacy in this mall is AEON Wellness although there is a Guardian branch here too. Both are on the ground floor.

Other than this, there is admittedly very little to browse in this mall despite how spacious the mall is. If it helps, at least parking is free.

PS: If you plan on staying here for lunch or dinner, you’ll be disappointed with the lack of options.

Besides this, a famous steamboat restaurant chain just opened a branch here (Haidilao Hot Pot, 海底捞).

6. Angsana Mall Ipoh/ Greentown Mall Ipoh

Angsana Ipoh Mall, opened for business in 1996. That time, its name was Greentown Mall. This mall is in the administrative area of Ipoh.

This mall is in the administrative area of Ipoh so workers from nearby offices, colleges, a hospital, and other government buildings typically frequent this mall as there are halal eateries.

Inside the mall are many small retail outlets of different categories like fashion, home interior, jewellery and sports. Moreover, there is a huge fabric store opposite the supermarket (Econsave).

This is also a good place to browse for cheap second-hand smartphones. Telecom service providers like Maxis and CelcomDigi have branches at this mall too.

PS: Not a fan of the parking lot and parking system here. Spaces are narrow too.

Mydin is a Malaysian chain of hypermarkets, supermarkets, and emporiums. The Mydin Mall over at Meru is walking distance from the Amanjaya bus terminal (Terminal Amanjaya).

The mall is a bit shabby in places (especially the toilets), but you can buy a lot of things (notably cheaper groceries in bulk) here while your kids hang out at the playing zone.

Moreover, if you are in this area and need something in a hurry, this mall should have it. Or something similar as there a great deal of different stores in this mall!

There are also ATM machines available here.

  2. Hail a taxi or use the Grab App
  3. Rent a car
  4. Or you can hire a private tour service like RayTheTour because besides transport, you’ll get a personal guide to show you around. Either make your own itinerary or follow the guide’s suggestions.

Conclusion

It’s true that shopping malls are not the main draw of Ipoh. Personally, our go-to malls are Ipoh Parade and AEON Kinta City.

A trip to any of these malls is a good way to chill out in an air-conditioned environment while you formulate your next battle plan.

Things To Do In Ipoh

Instead of going to the mall, you can bear the heat and explore more of what Ipoh has to offer. We recommend going further than Ipoh Old Town to see Kellie’s Castle, Gua Tempurung or even the TT5 Tin Dredge. These attractions don’t get as much attention as they should.

Nightlife In Ipoh

The local shopping malls open till 10pm. But if you want to do something else at night, we’ve got some more suggestions. Nightlife in Ipoh typically involves drinking (not necessarily alcohol) and getting some desserts or supper!

Spa Centers In Ipoh

As for the non-shopaholics in your group, there is the option of going to a spa instead! There are many massage spa centers in Ipoh to choose from. Some have wonderful scenery too.
