About Pho King
Pho King had a humble beginning as a hawker stall in a nearby kopitiam.
Now they have their own shop lot. Pho King serves authentic home-cooked Vietnamese dishes.
The husband and wife duo who run it are from Ha Long Bay. Thus, every dish served here will remind you of your favorite food savored on your last trip to Vietnam.
Food
Food is no doubt, the highlight of Pho King at SS2. They have many drool-worthy dishes that will bedazzle, be it their entrée, mains, or appetizers.
You can try their Summer Rolls. The vegetable wraps have lettuce, carrots, Japanese cucumber, and pieces of prawns. And there is a zesty but sweet dipping sauce.
Note: The Summer Rolls used to come with peanut sauce. But the new dipping sauce is good too.
If you don’t mind some grease, try their signature fried spring rolls. These have a crispy outside which relents to a juicy explosion. The filling is of fresh vegetables and well-marinade minced meat.
Moving on to their main dishes, the pho is first-class and hard to rival. It has a rich and flavorful broth infused with meaty essence and hints of spring onion.
Following Northern Vietnamese style, the broth leans towards a lighter consistency. The focus is the clear soup that complements the meat.
The consistency of the noodles is unlike conventional outlets. They are soft yet firm with an almost al dente texture. This is far superior to the soggy noodles that lesser-known outlets are guilty of.
Another delightful dish we recommend is the Vietnamese lemongrass chicken. The dish comprises boneless chicken with hints of lemongrass and mild spices. And so, this savory fusion dish is best consumed with rice.
Other dishes worth trying out are their bun cha (grilled pork platter with noodles). As well as their nem chua ran (fermented, fried pork roll) and grilled pork rice.
Desserts And Beverages At Pho King
If you still have room, you should try the decadent vanilla ice cream. As it comes with a drizzle of rum and pure Vietnamese coffee essence.
Or, their tiramisu which has their signature blend of Vietnamese coffee. It’s a memorable slice of heaven.
By the way:
Their rendition of Vietnamese drip coffee uses more Vietnamese condensed milk. And this gives the coffee immense depth and a creamy aftertaste.
Ambiance
Despite the small size of the restaurant:
The proprietors put tremendous thought into designing the interior and layout. Pho King exudes warmth while evoking curiosity.
The interior resembles looks like a hipster café with artsy graffiti. There are also picturesque photos of Vietnam.
Tables and chairs fill the space, alongside a bar that overlooks outside.
With its lighting, Pho King looks very inviting at night. Especially with its transparent floor-to-ceiling panels.
Service At Pho King
The environment may be cozy but seating is few within Pho King.
So expect to wait at least half an hour for a seat during their peak periods.
Even so, service is swift. And food comes in less than 15 minutes after you place your order.
Pricing
Prices are a little higher than your average Vietnamese food outlet.
But they do use quality ingredients and put a lot of care into preparing the food.
Ease Of Parking
Since Pho King is along a row of 2 shop lots. Here, there are other many great eateries, so finding parking can be nightmarish!
Lunch and dinner crowds aggravate the shortage of parking space. There are only 2 streets with legitimate parking bays here.
Prepare to park closer to the housing area, especially during peak periods.
Don’t even think about double parking. The streets are narrow and enforcement officers patrol this area often.
