It has been a long while since anything can measure up to the popularity of Kea Farm Market. But Agro Market is quickly gaining popularity. As a bonus, this attraction has a huge carpark too!
What can you see here that you cannot see elsewhere? Find out in this post!
Where Is Agro Market?
Agro Market is not far from Cactus Point. Unless you drive fast, it is hard to miss it because of the large signboard by the road.
The carpark takes up a lot of the area even though the whole complex is big– there are no parking fees here.
Before you enter the attraction, there are market shops and other little stores outside. These shops mainly sell snacks, produce, and souvenirs. Similar to what you would see at Kea Farm Market.
The main entrance of Agro Market is on the left through some shops. An inclined road leads up to the ticket counter and entrance gate. There is an attractive red cottage with rose bushes in front that houses the administrative office of the park.
Agro Market is open every day from 9am to 6pm. But if you don’t plan to take photos at every single corner, 1 hour is enough to explore this place at a leisurely pace.
Entrance Fees
The entrance fees are RM25 per adult. And RM10 per child (ages 3 and up).
This includes entrance to all the different sections like the aviary, Mini Santorini, the mini zoo and top garden.
You don’t have to pay for animal feed, or to take photos next to the flower displays. From what we can tell, the only restrictions here are for visitors to not pick flowers.
Attractions
Watch this video of the scenery:
There are many staff. But you don’t need their help to get around. You won’t need a map either. Just explore the place level by level and you won’t miss anything.
Signboards clearly indicate where all the different sections. Many of the sections are interconnected too.
1. Flower Mounds
These are the first things you’ll see when you enter. To us, they look very similar to the ones at CH Flora Park.
The differences between the two places are the colorful fences and floors here. Which is not to say that CH Flora Park is less attractive.
2. Cactus Section
Like the rest of the place, the cacti section that they have is beautifully done although some of the larger cacti have been vandalized.
There are yellow geometric arches and rows of gerberas right next to the cacti section. These make for a great photo opportunity.
Don’t forget to check out the succulent wall on the right of the cacti section!
3. Aviary
This is our favorite section. It is built on a slope with a suspended walkway so that visitors can see the whole of the aviary easily.
The aviary has a very high ceiling and some ponds at the bottom for the waterfowl. Many budgerigars and parrots sit on the many swings. A couple of peacocks wander the slope too.
There is one African grey parrot, and it can say hello.
If you want to entice some birds to your hands, look for the staff member hanging around the aviary. He gives out bird feed to visitors for this purpose.
So far, the bird enclosures at other places in Cameron Highlands cannot compare to the spacious aviary.
4. Love Locks
Big metal structures in the shapes of hearts line staircase on the right side of the park. They have colourful locks on them. Neon letters and flower covered walls add to the aesthetic appeal of this section.
We didn’t see where you can get locks from though, or anyone using the lock fence.
5. Mini Santorini
The Santorini-inspired section is built just for taking photos. Some of the doors and window shutters are functional but there are no real rooms behind the white and blue façade.
If you like taking selfies, you will have a lot of fun at this section.
6. Mini Zoo
The few sheep and alpaca that they have at Agro Market Cameron Highlands are free roaming. But while you can pet them through the fence, you cannot enter their enclosure.
You can find them at the other side of the aviary. Sometimes, grazing out of their pens on a tiny part of the hillside.
Likewise, visitors can’t go into the enclosures for the rabbits and cats. We were pleased to see that most of the animals are well looked after. Their enclosures are tidy.
The cat room is particularly impressive since it has a beautiful cat tree. And a full set of climbing shelves at the back. What we don’t like is that the cats are not neutered. We once saw a tom cat bullying a female that was not interested.
You can find the mini zoo right above the Mini Santorini section.
7. Secret Garden
At the highest point of Agro Market Cameron Highlands (and past the mini zoo) is this lovely flower garden.
It is small and while there are no amazing panoramic views to see here, there are benches for a quick break from taking photos.
This section leads into a café which overlooks the car park. The drinks here are not as expensive as we expected – tea costs RM5. There’s a counter in the café selling Keiko Ice Cream.
PS: We didn’t like the ice cream. All the flavors we tried were very artificial tasting.
What To Eat
There are a few places to get a bite here. The first is a bakery and fruit juice stall at the lowest level. The colorful seating upstairs is divided into a smoking and non-smoking section.
Secondly, there is a bigger café further up. The staircase to this café is beside the mini zoo. They have coffee, tea and cakes here. It doesn’t have much of a view (you’ll only see the car park from here), but it is spacious.
There is an open-air food court before the entrance too.
And Amazon Le Petit Cafe CH is right outside the exit. It is next to a small plant shop that makes custom terrariums too.
What To Buy
Agro Market doesn’t have any signature products. The only non-food related shop inside is a small gift shop on the way out.
If you’re looking for plants, fresh fruit or vegetables, there are stalls outside.
Summary
What we like:
- No tacky displays
- Animals have adequate enclosures
- Impressive aviary
- The whole place is very photogenic
- You can see sheep, roses, cacti, and many birds all in one location
- Parking is easy
- Sheltered from the rain (except the carpark)
What we don’t like:
- Gardens can smell strongly of chicken poop (the fertilizer they use for the flowers)
- Steep incline and many stairs make this place inconvenient for anyone with mobility issues
- Sheep could use a bigger place to graze
- Keiko ice cream is not worth getting
- Cats at the mini zoo are not spayed (we had an unpleasant experience witnessing a male cat attack an unwilling female)
Tips On Visiting
- Wear comfortable shoes
- There are many stairs here – beware if you plan to bring a stroller or wheelchair
- Parking is free
- The plant shop immediately outside the exit is worth a look. They have mini terrariums which they make themselves.
Conclusion
With so much space, free parking, and reasonable entrance fees, Agro Market in Cameron Highlands draws in crowds. Even without the little shops outside, the place can hold its own because it is well done and has many attractions.
Moreover, it is very accessible and convenient if you have your own car. Thanks to the large car park right outside!
Need some help getting to and around Cameron Highlands? You can take private tour services in the form of day trips from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands.
CH Flora Park
CH Flora Park is just as nice and probably larger than Agro Market – you can easily spend half the day here. There’s a lot of walking up hilly terrain involved so we do not suggest this place for anyone with mobility issues.
Green View Garden
If you don’t want to pay any entrance fees at all, you can check out Green View Garden. This is a pretty place to have strawberry juice or scones! They also have a massive gift shop with their own unique products!
