About
Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm is one of the oldest attractions in Cameron Highlands. It is the longest running apiary in Cameron Highlands as they have been in operation since 1980.
They produce honey organically and this means no pesticides.
You can see the number of times the visitor center has gone through renovation on the side of the first staircase (shortly after entering the building) that leads down into the farm.
The gardens and beehives are all below the visitor center so you cannot see them from the road. There is also a basement where you will find more shops and even a small cafeteria.
OEM honey and other bee products are their main source of income. They even sell these on online platforms like Lazada and Shopee.
Entrance Fees
There are no entry fees for Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm. You can visit the shops, gallery, farm and gardens entirely for free.
What To Do
1. Pick Up Cameron Highlands Souvenirs
Homemade jam, honey of different grades, bee-related products, local chocolate, keychains, and other knick-knacks are for sale at the ground floor shop at Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm.
Surprisingly, you can even buy water fountains here.
2. Learn Something You Didn’t Know About Beekeeping
Just by the small café that overlooks the gardens, is a small gallery where you can learn more about beekeeping.
There are old wooden beehives as well as other equipment related to the beekeeping industry. The central display has some tools labelled.
You can see the different stages of collecting honey and how bees grow up in another display case on the side.
3. Stroll Through The Gardens
For us, this is the highlight of a visit at Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm. You don’t have to pay any fees to see a garden that can measure up to the beauty of other paid flower gardens in Cameron Highlands.
They have a broad variety of flowers in the garden.
The garden is much bigger than it looks from above. A pathway leads off to the side of the main garden (with all the colorful flower boxes). Follow the path to see more flowers and bee statues.
From the side gardens, it is possible to loop back to where you started with another flight of stairs.
4. Admire Paintings By Local Painters
As you enter the garden, there are paintings of flowers at both sides of the stairs. An even more impressive landscape painting awaits in the middle of the garden.
The painting is signed by a local artist too.
5. Spot The Bees In Their Beehives
There are many beehives spread throughout the garden. And if you keep silent for a minute, you can hear a clear buzz in the air too.
If you want to see the bees up close, keep an eye out on brightly coloured flowers.
The openings of the beehives usually have a lot of activity too.
6. See The Fishponds
There are 2 in total. One in the gardens which is very murky. And another by the stairs down into the gardens. The latter has more fish and is clearer.
Note: You can’t buy any fish food to feed the fish.
7. Browse Through The Shops In The Basement Level
The basement houses the halal cafeteria. There are also stalls selling toys, clothes, snacks, more souvenirs, and fresh produce.
Facilities
- Basement food court (halal)
- Small café with balcony views of the bee farm
- Toilets (fee expected)
- Visitor car park in front
Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm does not have any lifts so if you want to visit the gardens and see the beehives, prepare to go up and down some stairs. The gardens are also not flat.
Parking
Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm has ample space to park in front and by the side of its visitor center. This is open-air parking with no gates or barriers.
It looks like they have basement parking too.
Summary
What we like:
- No pressure from the staff to make purchases
- Free entry
- Visitor parking right in front
- Beautiful gardens
- Lovely paintings to see
- Many bees and different types of flowers
- One-stop center for souvenirs
- Spacious
What we don’t like:
- More information signage would be nice
- Indoor maze seems closed
- Rabbits could use a more spacious and cleaner enclosure
- Some unsightly areas – but this is a working farm so expect beekeeping paraphernalia lying around
Conclusion
Go with Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm if your goal is to visit at least one bee farm in Cameron Highlands. One of the best things about a visit here is that it is entirely free!
But there is not much for kids to get excited about here besides the fishponds and small rabbit hutch (at least until the indoor maze is open again).
If you want to learn more about bees, we highly recommend a visit to Cameron Tringkap Bee Farm as they have an interesting gallery on bees.
And if you’re looking for another place in Cameron Highlands that is free to visit, try Green View Garden Cameron Highlands (which is currently free to enter). Or the smaller Highlands Apiary Farm, Bee Farm, Strawberry Farm.
