If you like the adrenaline rush of gravity-defying rides, Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park will interest you.
At an elevation of 6000 feet above sea level, this usually misty theme park features popular cartoon characters. As well as movie themes over 26 acres of land.
Read on to learn more about epic rides and where to score cheap ticket prices. Plus, how to navigate this big outdoor park!
Getting Here
If you’re driving from Petaling Jaya, you can reach the theme park via Karak Highway in about an hour.
Or you can also use an e-hailing service, take a bus or a cab.
You can also ride the cable car that takes you on a 10-minute panoramic ride over the trees to the summit. Disembark at Sky Avenue Station.
Parking at Awana Station is a breeze as there’s plenty of parking. The parking complex connects to Genting Premium Outlet. This is where shopaholics can get great bargains on designer pieces!
There’s extra off-street parking next to Resorts World Genting. And covered parking near Resorts World Genting makes it easy for you to get there with less leg work.
Tickets For The Park
Visitors can buy tickets for the theme park at the ticket booth on the day of admission. Or online through the Genting Skyworlds website.
From our experience, tickets sold at the ticket booth are more expensive! At the time of our visit, it cost RM170 for adults and children over 110 cm!
To get the most bang for your buck, we recommend buying your tickets online through the Genting Skyworlds website instead (it was RM150 per person when we made our bookings online).
But you can only book tickets online one day in advance. So, if you plan to visit the theme park on a Saturday, buy them online on Friday before midnight.
Using the Genting Skyworlds App
The Genting Skyworlds Theme Park App is a handy app that allows users to reserve 4 virtual queues (VQ) for popular rides. This way, you avoid long queues and shorten waiting times. While having absolute control over the order of the rides you want to experience.
If you buy more than one ticket (e.g. for couples, families or friends), you should create a “group” for your entourage. Once you create your group, you can pre-book the next ride in advance, depending on the time slot that suits you best.
You must scan each QR code in the app but scanning the codes can be tricky because the QR codes that appear after purchasing online are closely spaced. And if you scan the same code more than once, it will not register.
Tip: To make sure that the scanning of codes is successful, check that the total number of pax (on the right) matches the number of guests for the day.
Customer service at the park is well trained to answer questions you might have.
To plan your where to go, we recommend downloading the Genting Skypark app as the app includes a digital map of the theme park.
Or you may pick up the physical map of the theme park from strategic areas.
Rides At The Theme Park
There are 26 rides to appeal to all age groups. The theme park showcases some of the best movies under Twentieth Century Fox too. There are award-winning animated films like Rio and Ice Age.
Plus, pulsating motion-master rides with 9 amazing themes!
- Andromeda Base
- Central Park
- Eagle Mountain
- Epic
- Ice Age
- Liberty Lane
- Rio
- Robots Rivet Town
- Studio Plaza
Here are the rides that we tried during our visit:
Independence Day Motion Master
Independence Day Motion Master sets the tone for an extraordinary outing!
Recruits (us!) are sent on an urgent mission to battle the aliens in Saturn and prevent them from advancing to Earth.
During the ride, there is even an alien that threatens to break through the glass enclosure! Besides this, there are several jaw-dropping dips and near-misses with towers.
At the end of the ride, passengers gave applause – proof that the Impendence Day ride is impressive!
Night At The Museum
Next, we made our way to the Night At The Museum. In this 3D arcade game ride, we board a robot vacuum cleaner-like cart with two mini cannons on each side.
As the carriage spins, battle attacks from prehistoric warriors and relive parts of the movie. Compare your score with your companion’s at the end to see who earned the most points!
Epic Voyage To Moonhaven
If you’re game to get wet, the Epic Voyage To Moonhaven is a must-try! It’s uphill and off the beaten path but is a ride you should try out!
The friendly ride warden warned us that our feet, face, and pants would get wet, but that didn’t deter us.
PS: You might want to have a raincoat on for this ride.
The calm ride with cute characters takes a surprising turn after the first 20 seconds. We got a good splash on our faces and pants!
There are talking snails, butterflies, and garden characters from the movie. All while the carriage inches up a steep 30-meter hike!
We’re not giving away any spoilers here – you’ll have to experience the ride for yourself 😉
Invasion Of The Planet of the Apes
Invasion of the Planet of the Apes is another exciting motion master ride. It deserves a standing ovation! It is unlike traditional motion master rides with a typical cinema layout.
The experience is very immersive. 3D glasses magnify the life-like images. We felt like we were really dodging shots and attacks on a surreal battlefield!
Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice
Our last stop was at Ice Age: Expedition Thin Ice.
This puts you on a search for several missing baby animals. The cruise on an ice cube meanders through a slow river. We saw characters from the movie through 3D glasses.
What To Eat Here
Between picturesque setups are interesting cart-like stalls selling carnival food and snacks.
The Golden Gate Garage is a popular crowd-pleaser. They sell hotdogs and sausages with different condiments and meats.
Across the street from this booth is Chips and Dips. This is another food booth that visitors love for crispy purple potato French fries. And crunchy balls in wholesome sauces!
For a sit-down meal, Cha Chaan Teng offer Asian delicacies. If you’re craving Western, Asian, and fusion dishes, stop by Bucks Café in the Ice Age Zone. This makes for a relaxing retreat for both taste buds and aching feet.
On the whole, expect the food at the theme park to be expensive. But the quality of the food is good!
Although novelty creations (like Chips and Dip) are not worth the splurge!
Conclusion
Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park is currently the only mountain-top theme park in Malaysia. Courteous service of the park attendants contributes to a positive park experience.
Tickets are pricey no doubt. But you can look forward to an exhilarating time and top-notch entertainment!
