Notable Ipoh Food Near To MU Hotel Ipoh
Chinese food and Indian food are within walking distance if you stay at MU Hotel Ipoh!
1. Tong Sui Kai (糖水街)
Ipoh food and dessert all in one place! These street stalls by the main road open in the evening until after midnight.
You can get noodles and desserts like “Mixed fruits ABC” which is a combination of fresh fruit, jelly and ice cream!
2. Nasi Ganja Kedai Kopi Yong Suan
There’s always a queue for takeaway – usually with all 3 Malaysian races present too!
It’s quite interesting to see how the humble restaurant copes with so many customers!
It’s normal for dine-in customers to have to share a table with strangers.
The fried chicken is the highlight here! It costs under RM8 for rice, curry and chicken! Be sure to order the caramel custard and iced coffee from here too!
3. Hakka Mee Restaurant Paris (Yin Yau Kui)
Like the nasi ganja store mentioned above, this restaurant has become rather touristy for their yummy Hakka noodles with minced meat and bean sprouts on top.
Their service speed is impressive despite the overwhelming crowd.
4. Restoran Xin Quan Fang
Skip this tiny shop if you see many people. Else it will be a long wait for their curry noodles.
Which are more sour than the average curry noodles in Ipoh.
The staff knows English which makes it easier to order if you don’t know the local language.
5. Restoran Tuck Kee
On the same row with the famous Ipoh peanut candy store (Sin Weng Fai Peanut Candy Shop):
Restoran Tuck Kee has been around for many years. You should note that the food quality tends to be better when the shop is not full of people!
Go early to have their signature dishes:
- Moonlight hor fun
- Braised chicken feet
- Boiled octopus
- Spicy noodles
If Cowan Street Ayam Tauge & Koitiau Restaurant is closed – which it usually is:
You can try Ipoh taugeh chicken rice at either of these establishments:
- Lou Wong
- Ong Kee
Both are equally good at preparing the Ipoh must-try dish. And they’re right across from each other in Ipoh New Town!
7. Salted Chicken Ipoh – Aun Kheng Lim Salted Chicken
Lastly, there’s herbal salted chicken from Aun Kheng Lim. They pack their chickens ready-to-go for takeaways as this is not a dine-in restaurant.
There are many places to find Ipoh salted chicken and it can be very confusing to choose one, even for locals. But Aun Kheng Lim is a safe bet.
